At What Cost?

Damage to my body aside, my brain, liver, heart, etc…whatever, as a result of the last 12 years of being drunk; what have the monetary costs been for all of this?

Let’s make some assumptions, just to make the numbers easy. First, averages. I could prolly blow throw a 1.5 liter bottle of hooch in about 2 weeks easy so let’s assume that’s what I’ve done for the last 12 years. Let’s also assume the average over the 12 year span has been around $20. That seems like a good median b/c I can remember changing my drinking preferences over time to stay around the $20 mark. As soon as Southern Comfort went above $20, I switched to cheap whiskey man.

So, 12 years, 52 weeks a year, 26 2 wk periods per year, times 12 = 26*12 = 572 runs to the liquor store’ish to buy a $20 bottle of whatever.

So, 572*20 = $11,440.

$11,440 spent on liquor at a minimum probably, over the last 12 years. Holy Shit. I could’ve bought a freaking car with that.

Now, we’re not even going to try to factor in medical costs, like hospital visits, prescriptions for acid reflux, high blood pressure, whatever, but we’ll at least go ahead and factor in the latest hospital bills from the recent unpleasantness which started off this round of sobriety and that’s about $1k after insurance.

So, just for a nice round number, we’ll say $13k over the last 12 years easy. That’s OVER A GRAND A YEAR for the cost of booze and side effects. Holy Shit again.

Let that sink in.
