The Measure of Success

friend of mine sent me this the other day.  It’s nice to think of things this way, and can really ease your (self imposed or not) suffering.

To laugh often and much; to win respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others;to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you lived.  This is to have succeeded.

just one life folks.  just one.  just a smile to a stanger on a busy city street can start a chain reaction you can’t imagine.  Or a mindless or mindful post on a random blog.

you’ve succeeded.
